It was a real honour to attend the University of Leicester’s summer graduation ceremony recently, celebrating the next generation of talent stepping into the next stage of life. I joined proud families and friends in congratulating those receiving their degrees - each achievement a testament to years of hard work and dedication.
As someone representing Leicester East, seeing our young people graduate fills me with immense pride. Whether continuing to further study, embarking on a career, or exploring new ventures, each graduate will help shape our city’s future.
In My Words
“A real honour to be invited to the University of Leicester’s graduation ceremony, welcoming the next generation of talent onto the next stage of life. Congratulations to all those graduating—you’ve earned it! Leicester is proud of you.”

Why It Matters
Attending graduation allows us to honour the achievements of local students-some the first in their families to attend university. The University of Leicester, founded in 1921 and granted university status in 1957, has a legacy of academic excellence and social opportunity
Whether you studied physics, creative writing or nursing, graduation marks a powerful milestone-and reflects Leicester’s diverse and ambitious spirit.
What I Took Away
- A renewed belief in Leicester East’s future- our best days are ahead
- Gratitude for educators, families and mentors who guided these graduates
- A commitment to supporting policies and services that help our young people succeed
To all graduating students: congratulations again. Leicester beams with pride at everything you’ve achieved-and everything you have yet to accomplish.
